Community Outreach
Our Inspiration Dr. James Durham
Legacy-led. Tech-powered. Equity-driven.
At Newsome Park Strategies, our mission to transform community health begins with honoring the legacy of Dr. James Durham, widely recognized as the first African American to practice medicine in the United States formally.
Born into slavery in 1762 and apprenticed to physicians in New Orleans, Dr. Durham overcame extraordinary odds to become a self-taught healer, operating a respected medical practice that served both Black and white patients. His courage, intellect, and compassion made him a pioneer in community medicine and an enduring symbol of equity in healthcare. Although discriminatory laws later barred him from practicing, his legacy as a revolutionary caregiver endures.
We see Dr. Durham not just as a historical figure, but as our spiritual and strategic compass. Like him, we’re committed to serving those too often left behind. Our work is legacy-led, inspired by his determination to heal. It is tech-powered, fueled by modern screening innovations. And it is equity-driven, focused on correcting disparities and extending lifesaving tools into the hands of primary care providers and the communities they serve.
His legacy is the heartbeat of our mission.

The Dr. James Durham Community Health Initiative
Advanced Cardiovascular Screenings
In collaboration with Pulse4Pulse and BioTracker, we deploy cutting-edge tools that analyze more than 50,000 miles of vasculature and over 150 biomarkers to deliver a personalized, easy-to-understand cardiovascular health report, without the need for a specialist referral.
Equitable Access & Outreach
We bring these technologies directly into rural, minority, and underserved communities through partnerships with local clinics, HBCUs, faith-based organizations, and community leaders.
Education & Prevention
Our programs raise awareness, improve health literacy, and promote responsible, non-narcotic pain management and chronic disease prevention.
Community-Focused Engagement
We partner with civic leaders, athletes, and influencers trusted messengers in their communities to help normalize screenings and build long-term trust in preventive care.
More Than a Program A Movement
This isn’t just about technology. It’s about transformation in outcomes, in trust, in lives saved. Through Dr. Durham’s example and the power of our partnerships, we’re elevating the standard of care, reducing emergency interventions, and reshaping the way America thinks about heart health, starting at the community level.
Legacy-led. Tech-powered. Equity-driven.
That’s our DNA and our promise.

The 1Heart Initiative
Powered by Innovation. Driven by Equity. Focused on Saving Lives.
The 1Heart Initiative is Newsome Park Strategies’ flagship community heart health campaign a bold, actionable response to the CDC’s Million Hearts® Campaign and the American Heart Association’s call to confront structural racism as a root cause of cardiovascular disparities.
Built on the powerful foundation of two groundbreaking technologies BioTracker and Pulse4Pulse 1Heart delivers real-time cardiovascular risk assessment screenings directly to the communities that need them most. These FDA-cleared tools, designed for use in primary care settings, can detect signs of heart disease or early-stage risk in asymptomatic individuals, long before a life-threatening event occurs.
This isn’t just about data it’s about disrupting the deadly silence of undiagnosed disease. It’s about prevention over crisis, equity over access gaps, and empowerment over neglect.

Why 1Heart?
50% of heart attacks and strokes happen to people with no prior symptoms.
1Heart meets this crisis with proactive screenings that turn silence into action before it's too late
Black and underserved communities face the highest burden.
In alignment with the AHA’s 2020 Presidential Advisory, which recognizes structural racism as a fundamental driver of poor health outcomes, 1Heart is designed to decentralize access to diagnostics and rebuild trust between patients and providers.
CDC’s Million Hearts® sets a national goal to prevent 1 million cardiovascular events.
1Heart supports this mission by helping identify those most at risk—and least likely to be diagnosed under the current healthcare model.
